Stratasys and Express Dental Lab Offer 3D Printed Dentures in Oklahoma

3D printing has taken on an important role in the dental field, bringing significant improvements within the industry in recent times. A concrete example can be seen through the Mission of Mercy, an iconic two-day event aimed at providing free dental care to those who can’t afford it. Held in Lawton, Oklahoma, the gathering mobilizes dental experts, volunteers, and organizations to address the oral health needs of underserved populations. In this event organized by the Oklahoma Dental Association, Stratasys, a leading expert in 3D printing technology, partnered with Express Dental Lab to provide cutting-edge 3D-printed prostheses. At the event, over 55 individuals were able to benefit from these 3D printed dentures and prosthetic solutions, significantly improving their quality of life.

For the first day of the event, each patient scheduled for a prosthesis underwent an intraoral CT scan—a standard tool in dentistry renowned for producing precise three-dimensional images of the oral cavity. These scans meticulously capture tooth structure and health details, empowering healthcare practitioners to create digital models essential for various applications, such as denture fabrication. Leveraging these scans, Express Dental Labs manufactured the required appliances using Stratasys’ cutting-edge J5 DentaJet® 3D printer and TrueDent resin.

3D Printed Dental Prostheses Manufactured in 24 Hours

Stratasys’ advanced 3D printing technology enabled Express Dental Labs to craft personalized dentures with remarkable speed, completing the process within a mere 24 hours. After scanning and printing overnight, these dentures were on their way to participating dentists by sunrise.

This fast-track approach has allowed patients to benefit from perfectly fitting, natural-looking braces, and to regain their radiant smiles. Tra’ Chambers, owner of Express Dental Labs, emphasizes the positive impact of using Stratasys technology, stating:

It is awesome that we can do this for the community. Traditionally, dentures are labor intensive to manufacture, but when using Stratasys technology, we can serve many more patients in a shorter amount of time. The dentures we print are highly accurate, matching the patient’s gum and tooth color, so the dentures look great and fit well. Also, because the entire denture is printed as one piece and does not require any manual intervention, once the digital design is created, if the patient loses their dentures, a replacement can be created overnight with the digital record we have on file.”

This is the second year that Express Dental Labs has integrated Stratasys’ TrueDent solution. Nearly 40 Oklahoma residents benefited from new prostheses at this special event the previous year.
