The ProJet 4500 is the first 3D printer to combine color and plastic printing. Based on the ColorJet Printing (CJP) technology, it competes directly with Mcor Technologies’ (paper-based color printing) printer lines and complements the X60 project range (formerly ZCorp, mineral powder color printing) . The ProJet 4500 uses the VisiJet C4 Spectrum, a flexible, resistant and recyclable plastic.
CJP technology involves the use of two main components: the printing material and the binder. The printing material is deposited in thin layers on the platform using a roller. After each layer, the colored binder is diffused by the print head onto the layers of material to harden and color it.
