The Carbon L1 is a resin 3D printer developed by US manufacturer Carbon. The machine is designed for production and is aimed at professionals, engineers and manufacturers who want to reliably produce large parts (or lots of smaller parts). In fact, this solution offers the largest printing volume that the company has developed so far. Previous resin printers from Carbon include the M1, M2, M3, and M3 Max.
Features of the Carbon L1 3D printer
With the L1, Carbon seeks to expand the space of what is possible with a simplified printing experience. Based on Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis™ (DLS) technology, the L1 is designed to streamline production while providing a large-scale solution for resin technologies. With a maximum print volume of 400 x 250 x 460 mm (15.7 x 9.8 x 18.1 in; over 1000 cm²) and a resolution of 160 µm, it is ideal for industries where fast production is critical. Finally, Carbon’s L1 features a sealed enclosure and touchscreen control, and can be connected via Ethernet and USB cables.
The L1 is ideal for high-throughput production of functional prototypes; high-volume production can be undergone on the very same system. You can rest assured of the reproducibility of parts: the production repeatability accuracy is up to ±40 μm, the highest of the three printers in the series.
The L1 comes with a subscription with regular over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Also integrated is a service package with real-time support from the company and preventive maintenance to optimize machine uptime.
In terms of the applications of the L1, it finds use in the dental sector to produce clear-aligner models at a fast rate. The L1 has also been used by global, multimillion dollar companies including Adidas, and Riddel, who used it to create a custom football helmet. Other examples offered by Carbon include bike saddles and helmet liners.
